Gantner - Testing of Dynamic and Strength

May 2017, MARIETTA, GA Static and dynamic strength and fatigue analysis are absolutely necessary on wind turbine rotor blades. As the size of these blades increase, soon exceeding the 100m mark and generating up to 8 MW of power, the question of the composite material and its strength is an increasingly important issue. The Danish Test Center BLAEST in Aalborg specializes in the testing of these exceptionally long wind turbine blades.

When needing to upgrade its test cells, BLAEST selected Gantner Instruments Q.bloxx A116 DAQ modules for the strength and fatigue measurements that are essential prior to any prototype being approved for production. After extensive tests, it was determined that Gantner DAQ provided the temperature stable, flexible, precision measurements needed from modules disburses along the blades as they were bent and stressed. Up to 500 Q.bloxx channels can be measured by one Gantner Q.station controller and synchronized with a maximum jitter of 1 microsecond. The stability and precision of Gantner DAQ modules ensures the tests will be accurate and reliable, even in extreme conditions. The modular structure of the Q.bloxx system permits flexible arrangement of the measurement equipment and allows for easy expansion.
