Acuity Lasers’ Solution for Surface Inspection of High Security Keys

May 2019, MARIETTA, GA ~
The customer produces high security keys and wants to be sure that the keys satisfy certain parameters (key bit width, width and depth of profile cut shape, position, shape and depth of dimples and grooves). The high material reflectivity of keys and typical key measurement of under 1 mm, make the tactical inspection and quality verification a difficult process.

Acuity Solution
Acuity’s AP820 Laser Scanner is well capable of measuring the detailed surface structures of high security keys with high precision. Acuity’s non-contact 2D laser line scanner enables high process robustness, 100% inline inspection and less false errors that will improve quality and will reduce labor cost. Acuity’s system is capable of inspecting a key in between 0.05 to 0.5 seconds, which means the scanners can be used to test 100% of all parts in an inline configuration.

The AP820 Laser Scanner creates 2D profiles and 3D point cloud data using laser triangulation measurement principles. The AP820 is compact and performs very well on shiny or jagged targets. Edge scanning pose little problems due to the units’ auto gain and high dynamic range. The AP820 scanner is standard with Ethernet interface and a compact IP64 aluminum case. Acuity offers options to permit scanner installation in harsher environments.
