One of the world's most popular string pots used by test and instrumentation engineers now offers new features designed for extreme shock and temperatures.
Celesco Transducer Products, one of the world's leading designers and manufacturers of linear and rotary measurement transducers, announced these features to its MT2A aerospace and automotive test stringpot. The MT2A is designed specifically for testing in those two industries. Available in 3, 9, 15 and 30-inch stroke ranges, this sensor now offers an expanded operating temperature range and a new rugged aluminum sensor cover option.
Celesco's MT2A miniature string pot now has a lower operating temperature down to -65°F (-55°C). It offers an all-aluminum sensor cover option that is ideal for extreme high-impact or harsh applications. And it is specifically designed to meet the high accuracy, high cycle and high acceleration demands of the aerospace and automotive industries.
"The string pot can survive the demands of high vibration and high shock applications such as flight, crash and explosive shock tests," said Celesco General Manager Jim Bishop. "We have committed to building robust sensors that our customers can depend on even during these extremes."
This compact string pot is fully adjustable and easy to install thanks to its mounting bracket that feature 2-axis, 360-degree rotation. It is ideal for applications where tight or difficult mounting is a frequent challenge.
The high-tension, heavy-duty measuring cable consists of .019-inch nylon-coated stainless steel and affords acceleration of 136 Gs, Bishop said.
"This miniature string pot is specifically designed to meet the high accuracy, high cycle and high acceleration demands of the aerospace industry," Bishop said. "I guess you can say this sensor has some bulletproof features that hold up under extreme conditions, providing tremendous flexibility for our customers."
Aerospace structural test engineers have long used Celesco stringpots to measure deflections of aircraft structures while testing, since they are easy to install and are very accurate.
This new level of durability, along with the other advanced features of the MT2A, such as superb installation flexibility and frequency response, make this the most advanced sensor for dynamic testing on the market.
Additional models in this series include the MT2E for an encoder output signal and the MT3A for wet applications. Other applications include crash testing, drop tests, automotive suspension testing, airplane landing gear testing, space vehicle landing, strut tests and aircraft structural testing.
The key applications and benefits of the MT2A include:
-
Operating temperature has been lowered to -65 degrees Fahrenheit to accommodate harsh environments
-
Flight testing of actuators and surfaces
-
Crash tests of automobiles
