CSZ Offers Cost-Effective Performance Enhancement for Existing Walk-In Chamber

January 2017, MARIETTA, GA - When additional performance or capabilities are required, a decision needs to be made to order a new test chamber and or to retrofit an existing unit. This can be a difficult process that may include several factors. Is the timeline acceptable for the design, construction, and installation of a completely new system? Is there room in the budget? How much floor space is required? Is the existing walk-in chamber in good shape, but just doesnft meet the new test requirements?

Modular plenums offer a solution for retrofitting existing test chambers instead of buying a completely new chamber. Retrofits can often provide an extremely cost]effective solution when compared to a brand new chamber. By adding additional modular plenums or upgrading existing temperature or humidity capacity, the capabilities of existing chambers can be expanded.

Adding on to existing walk-in chambers and rooms can have a minimal impact on floor space since an additional chamber is not required. Modular plenum systems may also utilize existing utility lines adding further savings.

Recently, a major automotive manufacturer requested a solution for retrofitting an existing environmental chamber with a new temperature and humidity plenum system, including the replacement of existing electrical control boxes. This new modular plenum system would need to add the capacity for a 6,350 cu. ft. enclosure in order to achieve a transition from -30‹C to 50‹C with a load of 4,000 lbs. of steel and 1,000 lbs. of aluminum. In this specific application our customer also wanted to add a humidity option that could achieve 30%-95% RH.

This modular plenum provided the customer with a cost-effective solution by providing additional performance capacity and humidity to their existing chamber.
